Mead
Mead is an alcoholic beverage made with fermented honey. It has a sweet taste.[1]
Culture
The sharing of "meat and mead" is a common custom in the known world, including in Westeros,[2][3][4][5] by the free companies,[6] and at Vaes Dothrak.[7] The Dothraki prefer clotted mare's milk over mead, however.[8]
The mead and cider of the Quiet Isle are famous.[4]
Tormund's titles include Mead-King of Ruddy Hall.[9][5]
History
Theon Greyjoy often drank mead with Farlen while discussing hounds and hunting.[10]
Tormund claims to have slept with a bear after consuming a cask of mead at Ruddy Hall.[11]
Gilly drank sweet mead on the day she wed her father, Craster.[1]

A Storm of Swords
Val and Jarl share a horn of mead when Jon Snow is introduced to Mance Rayder. Jon accepts the offer of mead from the King-Beyond-the-Wall.[9] After Donal Noye, Mag Mar Tun Doh Weg, and Ygritte are slain during the attack on Castle Black, Jon and Tormund share a skin of strong mead to honor their fallen comrades.[12]
Samwell Tarly tells Gilly that Dareon's singing is as sweet as mead.[1]
Casks and wagons of ale, mead, and wine are provided by House Frey during the Red Wedding.[13][14] Flagons of mead, milk, and golden wine are served at the breakfast feast when King Joffrey I Baratheon receives wedding gifts.[15] A fine light mead is served for the wedding of Lysa Arryn to Petyr Baelish at the Fingers.[16]
A Feast for Crows
Brother Clement sells mead from the Quiet Isle at Saltpans, but he is killed when the town is raided by outlaws.[4]
