Lies of the Ancients

Lies of the Ancients is a work by Archmaester Fomas. It is little regarded due to its erroneous claims regarding the founding of Valyria and certain lineal claims in the Reach and westerlands. It also speculates that the mythic Others were nothing more than a tribe of First Men established on the far north and forced by the Long Night to engage in conquests to the south, becoming monstrous in tales told thereafter by House Stark and the Night's Watch to give themselves a heroic background as saviors of mankind.[1]
