Archmaester Fomas was an archmaester of the Citadel. He wrote the book Lies of the Ancients. He argues that the mythic Others were nothing more than a tribe of First Men established on the far north and forced by the Long Night to engage in conquests to the south, becoming monstrous in tales told thereafter by House Stark and the Night's Watch to give themselves a heroic background as saviors of mankind.[1]
