Personal life
Davis has a degree in arts with Honours and resides with her husband Michael in the Dundas Valley. She was Yates Avenue Public School P&C President, had been involved in establishing funding for regional indigenous communities in Tasmania and volunteered for the Cumberland Gang Show for seven years.[3]
Political career
Prior to her election, Davis had also worked for a number of Federal and State Members of Parliament and had held positions in the former Department of Employment, Education and Training.[3]
In 2017 Davis was elected to the City of Parramatta Council following its amalgamation. She was elected by councillors as its Lord Mayor on 10 January 2022 following the 2021 NSW Local Government elections. She is the third woman to hold the title.[4]
In January 2023 then-Lord Mayor Davis was preselected by Labor leader Chris Minns to contest the electoral district of Parramatta at the 2023 New South Wales state general election in march.[5] She defeated the Liberal candidate Katie Mullens on a 15.2% swing.[2]
Following her election to State Parliament Davis resisted pressure to resign her dual role as Lord Mayor, surviving a council motion brought by councillor Loraine Wearne requesting her resignation.[6] However, as a result of legislation introduced by the Liberal O'Farrell State Government in 2012 which states members of the NSW Parliament may not hold an office in local government concurrently for more than two years, Davis will be required to resign as either a councillor or member of the NSW Legislative Assembly by the September 2024 NSW Local Government elections.[7]
