Asian University of Bangladesh

Asian University of Bangladesh (Bengali: এশিয়ান ইউনিভার্সিটি অব বাংলাদেশ) or AUB is a private university in Bangladesh. It was established on 4 January 1996 by the Private University Act 1992.[1] The AUB permanent campus is at Ashulia. The university is affiliated by University Grants Commission (Bangladesh).

History

Asian University of Bangladesh was established in 1996. Professor Dr. Abulhasan M. Sadeq was the founder Vice-Chancellor of the Asian University of Bangladesh.[2] It is managed by Asian University of Bangladesh Trust.[3]

In May 2008, students of Asian University of Bangladesh clashed with students of Shanto-Mariam University of Creative Technology.[4]

In August 2009, the Rajshahi unit of the Asian University of Bangladesh was closed down following violent confrontation between police and students were protesting the university and asking the university to provide evidence that the Rajshahi campus was legal.[5] The University Grants Commission ordered the Asian University of Bangladesh to stop operations of external campuses and move to their permanent campus in Ashulia as soon as possible.[6]

In November 2016, the University Grants Commission declared degrees from the Asian University of Bangladesh invalid.[7]

The University Grants Commission found evidence of certificate fraud in an investigation Asian University of Bangladesh in April 2021.[8] Since 2012, Professor Abul Hasan M Sadeq has been the acting vice-chancellor due to the chancellor, President of Bangladesh, not appointing a vice-chancellor to the university.[8] Abul Hasan M Sadeq's son, Muhammad Jafar Sadeq, is the chairman of the board of trustees of the university.[9] The University Grants Commission has raised issued of anomalies at the Asian University of Bangladesh to the Ministry of Education.[9]
