Luthor Tyrell was a Lord of Highgarden and head of House Tyrell. He is the father of the current lord, Mace Tyrell.
History
Luthor had originally been betrothed to Princess Shaera Targaryen, but the pact was broken in 240 ᴀᴄ when she married her brother, Prince Jaehaerys Targaryen.[1] He instead married Olenna Redwyne.
Luthor rode off a cliff to his death while hawking. He had been looking up and not paying attention to where his horse was going.[2]

After meeting Luthor's widow, Lady Olenna Redwyne, at King Joffrey I Baratheon's royal wedding, Tyrion Lannister ponders if Luthor rode off that cliff on purpose.[3]
