A Storm of Swords
Maester Pylos mentiones Lord Butterwell to Davos Seaworth as an example that high birth and being a wise and learned battle commander or knight does not automatically mean that said person will make a good Hand of the King. Pylos states that, although Lord Butterwell was renowned for his wit, he failed as Hand of the King.[1]
