Chapter articles

Hi

I'd like to do some reorganizing and reformatting of the book chapter articles. First though, I'd like to ask for opinions regarding the titles of the chapter pages.

  1. Chapter titles: Currently, the articles are named by the number of the chapter, e.g. A Feast for Crows-Chapter 22.
I'm not too fond of that naming style, but to be sure I am influenced heavily by the English Wikipedia's style guidelines. Naming convention there would ask to name the pages after their most common name, while adding disambiguators in parantheses. In this case, it would be named Arya II (A Feast for Crows).
  2. Numeric chapter titles: If a naming style without chapter number is adopted, are redirects from e.g. Chapter 22 (A Feast for Crows) still useful and desirable? If so, are prologue/epilogue part of that enumeration? If so, is the prologue chapter 0 or chapter 1?
  3. Numerals: Arya II or Arya 2? A few google samples suggests that Roman numerals are significantly more common. Redirects from the other style should be created.
  4. Special chapter POVs: What is the most common name for those chapters: "The Princess in the Tower" or "Arianne II", "Alayne I" or "Sansa II"?
  5. POV navigation links: I'd like to add links pointing to the last and next chapter of the current chapter's POV. That's straightforward for most chapters, not so much with the Dorne and Ironborn chapters in AFfC though. Should each of those series of chapters be seen as one chain, with e.g. Aeron I → Asha I → Victarion I → Aeron II → Victarion II? Or rather Aeron I → Aeron II etc.?

I've already started talking to Scafloc about it on my talk page, but I thought I'd ask for some more opinions before I start with the grunt work, to reduce the amount of cleanup afterwards, and this page appears to be the closest there is to a community noticeboard. :)

My only concern would be changing all the references. If there are redirects to your new pages then I don't really care one way or another. But if it requires going into each page and changing every single reference....I'll just say there had better be redirects because we'll never get done. The Pale Griffin 18:15, 20 June 2011 (CDT)

Following up on the status of this proposal. Archer has implemented all the above on 'A Dance with Dragons' chapter summaries and I have been updating the rest of the books infoboxes(issues 2-5). which leave only the the matter of 'Chapter titles' un resolved, there are simple(thou not so easy) solutions either rename the rest of the chapter summaries according to the convention used in aDwD chapters and create redirects to aDwD chapters(about 70x4 renames and 70 redirects) or we Rename aDwD chapters back.(none of it will have any impact on existing pages).

we need to resolve this and decide which convention is better (see also discussion at the forum]). At the moment, I am slowly updating the rest of the chapter summaries, when I reach aDwD chapter, unless I see a resolution or hint of discussion, I am going to take the easiest solution available (which would involve the least amount of edits, because I dont think there is a huge benefit in the new convention). --Mor 17:28, 27 October 2011 (UTC)
