West Topoli, Kupiansk Raion, Kharkiv Oblast

Topoli (Ukrainian: Тополі, romanized: Topoli) is a rural town (selyshche) in Dvorichchia municipality, Kupiansk Raion, Kharkiv Oblast, Ukraine. It has a population of 261. Until 2020, the local government body was Pisky village council. It is located on the left bank of the Oskil, not to be confused with village of Topoli.

Geography

The rural town of Topoli is located on the left bank of the Oskil River, not far from the border with Russia, on the opposite bank is the village of Topoli. The elevation is 107 meters. [1]

History

The town was founded in 1920.

On June 12, 2020, in accordance with the Order of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine No. 725-p "On the definition of administrative centers and approval of territories of territorial communities of Kharkiv oblast", it became part of the Dvorichanska settlement community. [2]

On July 19, 2020, as a result of the administrative-territorial reform and abolition of Dvorichansky raion, the village became part of the Kupiansk Raion of Kharkiv Oblast. [3]

The town was occupied by Russian troops from February 24, 2022 during the Russian invasion of Ukraine, before it was retaken in the Kharkiv counteroffensive.[4][5]

Since June 24, 2017, there has been a border service point, which was opened by Interior Minister Arsen Avakov and NSDC Secretary Oleksandr Turchynov.
