Chris Cooke (politician)

Chris Cooke is a British Labour Party politician. Since May 2023, he has been the Mayor of Middlesbrough.[1]

Biography

Cooke was born and brought up in Teesville, North Yorkshire, England.[2]

On 2 May 2019, Cooke was elected as one of three councillors to represent the Newport Ward on Middlesbrough Council.[3] On 4 May 2023, he was elected Mayor of Middlesbrough with 10,956 votes, defeating the incumbent Andy Preston by 760 votes.[4] The mayor is one of a number of directly elected mayors in England. The turnout was only 28% of the 99,034 registered voters in Middlesbrough.[5]
