Background

Uzun Hasan's patronage of Trebizond is not only the result of his alliance with the Greeks; He did not want these beaches, which he had coveted, to fall into the hands of the Ottomans.[4]

Because of this, he started to encroach on the Ottoman lands with or without reason, meanwhile he had captured Koyulhisar.

In this respect, although Sultan Mehmed commissioned Sarapdar Hamza Pasha to take this castle, the pasha could not achieve a result. But it looted and destroyed the places around it.[5]

Capture of Koyulhisar

Sultan Mehmed, who had planned to march on Trebizond, had prepared his army and navy for this issue. However, the army was strong enough to fight Uzun Hasan[6]

It was risky for Mehmed to march to Trebizond unless he eliminated this state that hit him in the back. In this respect, Mehmed left the coastal road and set out for Sivas, and after 3 days of battle, he captured Koyulhisar, which Uzun Hasan had just taken.[7]

Battle of Koyulhisar

Uzun Hasan sent his uncle's son Hursid Beg with some Bayındırî soldiers to hold a pass through which the Ottoman army would pass. The army leaders encountered and fought with them and defeated the Aq Qoyunlu army badly.[8]
